Mohammad Rizwan Matches Unwanted PSL Record Amid Tough Season

Mohammad Rizwan has equaled an unwanted record in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), registering his sixth duck as captain. With this, he now shares the record for most ducks by a skipper in PSL history with Shaheen Shah Afridi.

The milestone came during his team’s 32-run loss to Lahore Qalandars, extending their losing streak to seven matches in the ongoing season.

Most Ducks as Captain in PSL

  • Mohammad Rizwan – 6
  • Shaheen Shah Afridi – 6
  • Wahab Riaz – 4
  • Imad Wasim – 4

Rizwan acknowledged his struggles after the match, admitting that his individual performance has not met expectations this season. He accepted responsibility while noting that challenging phases are part of a player’s career.

The wicketkeeper-batter also expressed confidence in making a strong comeback, highlighting that he has previously stepped away from T20 cricket to improve his form and return better prepared.

Explaining a tactical decision, Rizwan said he did not keep wickets in the match so he could stay closer to younger players on the field, particularly to support emerging fast bowler Razaullah.

Despite the team’s ongoing difficulties, Rizwan pointed out some positive signs, praising players like Abdullah Fazal and Saad Masood for their potential. He added that while there are areas to improve, the team still has promising talent for the future.

With no wins in seven matches, the season has been challenging for Rizwan and his side, and his record now reflects the broader struggles faced during the campaign.
