Islamabad Authorities Ban Private Schools From Taking More Than One Month Advance Fee
The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority has launched a crackdown on unregistered private schools in Islamabad, warning that institutions operating without approval may face strict legal action, including sealing of premises.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at protecting students’ education, health, and parents’ rights while ensuring schools follow official regulations.
Under the new directives, private schools are no longer allowed to collect more than one month’s fee in advance. Authorities also declared it illegal for schools to charge fees beyond the 12-month academic session.
The regulatory authority warned that schools violating fee rules could face:
- Heavy fines
- Financial audits
- Possible sealing of the institution
In addition, authorities have introduced a “Lighter School Bags Policy” to help reduce health issues among students.
According to the policy:
- A student’s school bag should not exceed 10% of their body weight
- Schools have been directed to reduce unnecessary books and academic load
Officials said heavy school bags can contribute to back pain and other physical health problems among children.
A special complaint cell has also been established to help parents report concerns related to private schools and fee-related issues.
The chairman of the authority stated that exploitation of students and parents would not be tolerated and emphasized that strict action would be taken against institutions violating the rules.
