Donna Vekic Wins Queen’s Club Title After Defeating Emma Raducanu

Donna Vekic claimed the Queen’s Club championship on Sunday with a 6-0, 7-6 (6) victory over Emma Raducanu in the final in London.

The Croatian player delivered a strong performance to secure the title, overcoming a determined fightback from Raducanu in the second set.

Raducanu, Britain’s top-ranked women’s player, was aiming to capture her first singles title since her memorable triumph at the 2021 US Open. However, she faced a difficult start as Vekic dominated the opening set.

The British star responded impressively in the second set, saving multiple championship points and forcing a tiebreak. Raducanu continued to battle throughout the closing stages of the match and came close to extending the contest to a deciding set before Vekic secured victory.

Despite the loss, the tournament marked an encouraging run for Raducanu, who reached the first grass-court final of her professional career and the third tour-level final overall.

Her path to the final included two victories on Saturday after weather-related scheduling changes required her to play twice in one day. Raducanu defeated Kamilla Rakhimova and American teenager Iva Jovic to earn a place in the championship match.

The result continues a positive season for Raducanu, who also reached the final in Cluj-Napoca earlier this year, finishing runner-up to Sorana Cirstea.

For Vekic, the title represents another significant achievement in her career and provides valuable momentum ahead of the upcoming grass-court season and Wimbledon.

While Raducanu was unable to secure the trophy on home soil, her performance throughout the tournament highlighted her continued progress and competitiveness at the highest level of the sport.
