President Asif Ali Zardari Begins Four-Day Official Visit to Kyrgyzstan
Islamabad, July 6, 2026: President Asif Ali Zardari is departing on a four-day official visit to Kyrgyzstan at the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
The president is accompanied by a high-level delegation for talks aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in several key sectors.
First Presidential Visit in 21 Years
The Foreign Office described the visit as a significant milestone, noting that it is the first official visit by a President of Pakistan to Kyrgyzstan in 21 years.
The visit follows President Sadyr Zhaparov’s trip to Pakistan in December 2025, reflecting continued high-level engagement between the two countries.
High-Level Meetings Planned
During the visit, President Zardari will hold:
- A one-on-one meeting with President Sadyr Zhaparov.
- Delegation-level talks between officials of both countries.
The discussions are expected to cover the full range of bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Focus on Economic Cooperation
Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan are expected to explore opportunities for expanding cooperation in several sectors, including:
- Trade and investment
- Energy
- Mining
- Agriculture
- Textiles
- Halal industry
- Healthcare and pharmaceuticals
- Digital economy
- Education
- Tourism
- People-to-people exchanges
President Zardari is also scheduled to meet Kyrgyz Parliament Speaker Marlen Mamataliev during the visit.
Long-Standing Bilateral Relations
Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan maintain friendly diplomatic relations based on shared cultural, historical and regional ties. Both countries are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and continue to cooperate on regional connectivity and economic initiatives.
One of the major regional projects involving both countries is the Central Asia-South Asia Electricity Transmission and Trade Project (CASA-1000), which aims to improve electricity trade between Central and South Asia.
Recent Cooperation
Relations between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have expanded in recent years through agreements covering:
- Trade and commerce
- Energy cooperation
- Healthcare
- Digital finance
- Blockchain technology
- Cryptocurrency collaboration
During President Zhaparov’s visit to Pakistan in December 2025, both countries signed 15 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to enhance cooperation in multiple sectors.
Pakistan has also offered Kyrgyzstan access to regional and international markets through the country’s ports, including Karachi, Port Qasim, and Gwadar, to help strengthen regional trade and connectivity.
