PPP’s Amjad Hussain Sworn In as Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister
Gilgit, July 6, 2026: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Amjad Hussain was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) during a ceremony held at Chinar Bagh in Gilgit on Monday.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, along with party leaders, government officials, and other invited guests.
Amjad Hussain was elected as chief minister on June 22, following the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections held on June 7. The PPP emerged as the largest political party in the 24-member assembly by securing 12 seats.
PPP to Lead the GB Government
Speaking after taking the oath, Chief Minister Amjad Hussain thanked party workers and supporters, saying the election results reflected public confidence in the PPP.
Earlier, the PPP announced that it would form the Gilgit-Baltistan government with the support of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Under the arrangement, the PML-N agreed to support the government while remaining on the opposition benches in the assembly.
Oath-Taking Ceremony Rescheduled
The oath-taking ceremony was originally scheduled for July 1, but it was postponed. The event was later held on July 6, with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari attending the ceremony.
The new Gilgit-Baltistan government is expected to begin work on its governance priorities following the completion of the oath-taking process.
