Japan Tops Standings as Puerto Rico Stays Unbeaten at WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group Lima

Japan strengthened its position at the top of the standings after another impressive day at the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup 2026 – Group Lima, while Puerto Rico maintained its unbeaten record and Great Britain earned its first victory of the tournament.

After two days of round-robin competition, Japan remains the only team with a perfect 3-0 record, followed by Puerto Rico at 2-0.

Japan Delivers Two Dominant Wins

Japan enjoyed a successful doubleheader, opening the day with a 4-0 victory over the Philippines.

The Japanese pitching duo of Sakura Miwa and Mio Sakamoto combined for a one-hit shutout, keeping the Philippines’ offense under control throughout the game.

Later in the day, Japan defeated tournament hosts Peru 9-0 in a five-inning contest.

Kanna Kudo led the offense with a home run and four RBIs, while another strong pitching performance from Miwa and Sakamoto secured Japan’s second shutout of the day.

Puerto Rico Extends Winning Start

Puerto Rico improved to 2-0 after defeating Venezuela 7-4 in one of the day’s most competitive matchups.

Aleshia Ocasio played a key role by pitching a complete game and driving in three runs, including the go-ahead RBI double in the fifth inning.

Alanah Rivera also contributed with a solo home run as Puerto Rico remained unbeaten despite being out-hit by Venezuela.

Great Britain Records First Victory

Great Britain bounced back from its opening defeat with a convincing 7-0 win over Peru in five innings.

Pitcher Jasmine Francik delivered a no-hit performance, narrowly missing a perfect game after allowing only one batter to reach base by hit-by-pitch.

On offense, Morgan Salmon and Katie Burge each collected two hits to help Great Britain secure its first win of the tournament.
