Pakistan Railways Partially Restores ML-1 Train Services After Track Repairs
Pakistan Railways has partially resumed train operations on the Main Line-1 (ML-1) after completing repair work on one of the tracks affected by a freight train derailment near Wahab Shah Station in Sindh.
The disruption lasted for nearly 20 hours, affecting train schedules across several major routes.
Train Operations Begin on Repaired Track
According to railway officials, the down track leading toward Karachi has been restored and reopened for train traffic.
This has allowed Karachi-bound trains departing from cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, and Multan to gradually resume operations.
Repair work on the up track, used for trains traveling toward Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is still underway.
Freight Train Derailment Caused Service Disruption
The incident occurred after more than 12 wagons of a coal freight train derailed near Wahab Shah Station in Sanghar district, damaging both railway tracks.
The derailment temporarily suspended rail traffic on one of Pakistan’s busiest railway corridors and led to delays and cancellations of several passenger services.
Train Cancellations and Passenger Refunds
Due to the disruption, Pakistan Railways canceled a number of train services operating between Lahore and Karachi.
Passengers with confirmed bookings on canceled trains have been advised to obtain full ticket refunds through railway reservation offices.
Several trains were also delayed at stations along the route while restoration work continued.
Restoration Efforts Continue
Railway engineering teams worked continuously with heavy machinery to repair the damaged infrastructure.
Officials said a trial run was successfully completed on the restored track before regular train operations resumed at controlled speeds.
Work is continuing to restore the second track, after which services are expected to return to normal.
Investigation Ordered
Pakistan Railways has initiated an investigation into the derailment to determine its cause.
Officials said a detailed inquiry is underway, and further information will be released after the investigation is completed.
Services Expected to Normalize Gradually
Railway authorities have advised passengers that while train services have partially resumed, schedules may continue to experience delays until both tracks are fully restored and normal operations are re-established.
