Pakistan, West Indies Set for Two-Test Series as Brian Lara Stadium Makes Test Debut

Pakistan and the West Indies will begin their two-match Test series on Saturday, with the opening match marking the first-ever Test to be played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad.
The venue has previously hosted One-Day Internationals (ODIs), T20 Internationals, and regional first-class matches. It now becomes Trinidad and Tobago’s second Test venue and the 13th Test ground in the West Indies. The second Test of the series will be played a week later at Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain.
West Indies Enter Series with Confidence
The hosts head into the series after a successful home campaign against Sri Lanka, where they secured a convincing series victory. It was the West Indies’ first home Test series win since 2022.
Captain Roston Chase, who recently recovered from a finger injury, is expected to lead the side in the opening Test.
West Indies are unlikely to make major changes to the team that performed well against Sri Lanka, although team management may consider adjustments depending on pitch conditions.
Pakistan Look for Strong Comeback
Pakistan arrive in the Caribbean aiming to improve their recent Test performances. The squad has undergone changes following its previous Test series, with Babar Azam returning as captain.
During the team’s warm-up match against a West Indies Select XI, Babar Azam and opening batter Azan Awais both scored centuries, while several other batters also spent valuable time at the crease.
Fast bowler Mohammad Ali impressed by claiming five wickets in the first innings of the warm-up fixture and is expected to play an important role during the series.
Recent Head-to-Head Record
Pakistan and the West Indies last met in a Test series in 2025, where both teams won one match each, resulting in a 1-1 draw. Their previous series in the Caribbean, held in 2021, also ended level.
Weather Could Play a Role
Weather conditions may influence the outcome of the series, as the Caribbean typically experiences frequent rainfall during July and August. Although sunny weather has been reported ahead of the opening Test, changing conditions remain a possibility over the course of the series.
Cricket fans will be watching closely as both teams look to make a strong start in a series that also marks a historic milestone for the Brian Lara Stadium.
