Punjab Government Expands Maryam Nawaz Ration Card Programme

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved an additional Rs43.2 billion for the Maryam Nawaz Ration Card Programme, expanding support for registered workers across the province.

According to an official statement, the provincial government has already distributed Rs28 billion under the programme to 1.2 million registered workers.

More Than 1.4 Million Workers Registered

The government said the number of registered workers has reached 1,403,063.

According to the latest figures:

  • 1,244,130 workers have received ration cards.
  • Printing of an additional 4,984 ration cards is currently in progress.

Monthly Support for Essential Items

Under the programme, eligible workers receive essential household items worth Rs3,000 per month through a network of approximately 62,000 participating shops across Punjab.

The initiative is designed to provide financial relief by helping workers purchase basic necessities.

Programme Extended for FY 2026–27

The Chief Minister also approved the continuation of the ration card programme for the 2026–27 fiscal year.

Officials said that more than 100,000 workers associated with the Suthra Punjab Programme are also benefiting from the initiative.

Government Directs Further Expansion

During a meeting on the programme, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz instructed relevant authorities to increase the number of registered workers so that more eligible individuals can benefit from the scheme.

She said supporting the financial well-being of labourers and workers remains a priority for the provincial government.

The Punjab government is expected to continue expanding the programme as part of its social welfare and worker support initiatives.
