Harry Kane Scores Twice as Bayern Munich Open German Cup Defense With 4-1 Win

Harry Kane scored twice as Bayern Munich began their German Cup title defense with a comfortable 4-1 victory over second-division Osnabrück on Wednesday.
The defending champions secured their place in the second round after overcoming an early setback at the Bremer Brücke stadium in Osnabrück.
Osnabrück Take Early Lead
Second-division Osnabrück stunned Bayern by opening the scoring through Robin Meissner.
Meissner produced an impressive long-range finish from around 30 meters, sending the ball into the upper right corner of the Bayern goal. His effort was applauded by Kane and Bayern goalkeeper Jonas Urbig.
Bayern responded quickly, with Harry Kane finding the equalizer shortly afterward.
The visitors then completed the turnaround in the 24th minute when Tom Bischof put Bayern 2-1 ahead.
Bayern Seal Victory in Second Half
Bayern maintained control of the contest but had to wait until the 73rd minute to create more breathing room.
Michael Olise scored Bayern’s third goal to put the defending champions firmly in control.
Kane then added his second goal from the penalty spot to complete the scoring and give Bayern a 4-1 victory.
The result sends Bayern Munich through to the second round as they continue their defense of the German Cup.
Musiala Misses Bayern’s Cup Match
One notable absentee from Bayern’s squad was Jamal Musiala.
The Germany international remains sidelined after collapsing during two preseason matches because of a neurological issue.
Bayern manager Vincent Kompany indicated that Musiala could potentially return for Saturday’s Bundesliga match against promoted Schalke, although he stressed that no additional pressure should be placed on the player.
Kompany Keeps Strong Starting XI
Despite facing a lower-division opponent, Kompany opted against making major changes to his starting lineup.
Bayern began with attacking stars Harry Kane, Luis Diaz and Michael Olise, while new signing Ismael Saibari made his first start for the club since arriving from PSV Eindhoven.
The experienced lineup helped Bayern recover from Osnabrück’s early goal and secure a convincing result.
Bayern Continue Trophy Defense
Kane’s two goals provided the highlight of Bayern’s opening German Cup fixture, while goals from Bischof and Olise completed a strong comeback.
The 4-1 victory gives Bayern a positive start to their Cup campaign as they look to retain the trophy and add another domestic title to their collection.
