Government Disburses Rs. 51.13 Billion Under Apna Ghar Housing Scheme

The federal government has reported significant progress in its affordable housing initiative, with more than Rs. 51 billion disbursed to applicants under the Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar Program, also known as Ghar Ho To Apna.

Advisor to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad shared the latest figures on social media, highlighting the expansion of housing finance under the government-backed program.

Rs. 351.3 Billion Financing Approved

According to data available as of September 4, 2026, banks have approved financing worth Rs. 351.3 billion for 60,349 applications under the scheme.

Of the approved amount, Rs. 51.13 billion has been released through 9,717 housing loans.

The figures indicate an approval rate of around 38.5%, while the average approved loan stands at approximately Rs. 5.26 million.

Approved financing also increased by Rs. 38.3 billion in a single week, representing growth of more than 12%.

Government Targets Faster Disbursement

With a substantial amount already approved, the government is now focusing on speeding up the release of funds and ensuring that approved financing translates into actual house purchases, construction and completion projects.

The program allows eligible Pakistani families to secure financing for purchasing a home, constructing a new house or completing an existing property.

Applicants can obtain financing of up to Rs. 10 million, with repayment periods extending to 20 years.

One of the key features of the scheme is a fixed interest rate of 5% for the first 10 years, aimed at making housing finance more affordable for eligible households.

Housing Finance Expected to Boost Construction Sector

The government expects the expansion of housing finance to generate activity across the wider construction industry.

Higher demand for residential construction could benefit industries supplying cement, steel and other building materials, while small and medium-sized businesses associated with construction may also see increased economic activity.

Despite the Rs. 351.3 billion financing approvals recorded so far, actual disbursements remain comparatively lower at Rs. 51.13 billion.

The government is therefore placing greater emphasis on converting approved financing into completed housing transactions and construction activity in the coming months.
