Suthra Punjab Contractors Announce Strike Over Six Months of Unpaid Dues

The Suthra Punjab Contractors Association in Muzaffargarh has announced a strike over unpaid dues, warning that sanitation and cleaning services will be suspended from September 17 if outstanding payments are not released.
The contractors claim that payments for sanitation-related machinery have remained pending for the past six months, creating financial difficulties for companies involved in the province’s cleanliness operations.
Contractors Demand Clearance of Outstanding Payments
Association Provincial General Secretary Soheil Soharani said the government owes billions of rupees to contractors for machinery being used for sanitation services across 21 tehsils in South Punjab.
According to the association, the outstanding payments have remained unsettled despite repeated assurances from the Suthra Punjab administration and local authorities.
Soharani said contractors have been waiting for the release of their payments but have yet to receive the required funds.
Cleaning Operations Could Be Suspended
The contractors have announced that sanitation operations will be halted from September 17 if their outstanding dues are not cleared.
The association warned that contractors will not permit their machinery to continue operating until the pending payments are released.
The move could affect cleaning and waste-management activities in areas where contractors provide services under the Suthra Punjab programme.
Contractors Cite Repeated Payment Assurances
According to the association, government representatives and local officials have repeatedly assured contractors that their dues would be paid.
However, Soharani said those assurances have not resulted in the release of funds so far.
The contractors are now demanding that the authorities resolve the payment issue before their machinery is allowed to return to sanitation duties.
Strike Could Affect Sanitation Services
The announced suspension comes as sanitation contractors across South Punjab continue to seek payment for services and machinery already provided.
If the dispute remains unresolved, the stoppage could disrupt routine cleaning operations in the affected tehsils.
The contractors have indicated that they will reconsider the strike once the outstanding payments are cleared.
