CDA Announces Construction Timeline for New Islamabad Underpass
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is preparing to start construction of a new underpass at Kashmir Chowk in Islamabad, with work expected to begin after September 27.
According to CDA officials, the authority has approved the winning bid for the project, while initial preparations at the site are already in progress.
Habib Construction Services (HCS) has been awarded the construction contract after submitting a bid of Rs. 1.45 billion. The estimated cost of the project in the tender documents was around Rs. 1.486 billion.
Site Preparation and Traffic Planning
Workers have started clearing the construction site as the CDA prepares for the main phase of the project. The authority is also working on traffic diversion plans and arrangements to relocate utility services where necessary.
The tender documents specify a completion period of 90 days. However, officials reportedly expect the contractor to complete the underpass in approximately two months under a fast-track construction schedule.
Underpass Location and Traffic Flow
The underpass will be constructed at Kashmir Chowk on Murree Road, which is also known as Dhokri Chowk and is located near Islamabad Club.
Under the planned traffic arrangement, vehicles travelling from the Serena area toward Rawalpindi will use the underpass. Traffic heading toward Murree will continue through the upper section of the interchange.
The project has been designed by the Lahore team of NESPAK. CDA officials have said the authority intends to complete the development within the approved budget while limiting unnecessary design changes that could raise construction costs.
