Asian Games 2026: Zhang Boheng Wins Men’s All-Around Gymnastics Gold

China’s Zhang Boheng won the men’s all-around gymnastics gold medal at the Asian Games in Nagoya on Monday, finishing ahead of Japan’s Olympic champion Shinnosuke Oka and world champion Daiki Hashimoto.

Zhang scored 85.065 points to claim the title despite dealing with a minor injury before the competition.

Zhang Overcomes Injury to Win Gold

The 26-year-old Chinese gymnast said the competition was highly challenging, particularly because of the injury concern he faced before arriving in Nagoya.

Despite the setback, Zhang managed to complete his routines and secure the gold medal.

He said he had worked on correcting technical weaknesses and improving his mindset, describing himself as a more mature athlete compared with previous major competitions.

Another Chance at World Championships

Zhang finished behind Oka at the Paris Olympics and was also beaten by Hashimoto at the most recent World Championships.

His Asian Games victory gives him confidence ahead of next month’s World Championships in Rotterdam, where he will again face some of the sport’s leading gymnasts.

Zhang said he had focused on reviewing his weaknesses and making technical adjustments as part of his preparations.

Oka Competes Despite Back Injury

Oka entered the Asian Games while managing a back injury and had to reduce the difficulty of some of his routines.

The Japanese gymnast said he performed at the level he was currently capable of producing while trying to avoid aggravating the injury.

He revealed that he received treatment, including injections and time in an oxygen capsule, while removing skills that could put additional strain on his back.

Oka said the approach allowed him to complete his routines without suffering a major flare-up during the competition.
