KARACHI: The 10th National Road Cycling Championship is set to take place in Karachi from October 9 to 11, bringing together cyclists from different parts of Pakistan.

The three-day event will feature competitions in men’s, women’s, junior, para-cycling and masters categories. The championship will begin at 9am on Friday at Bahria Town Karachi.

Cyclists representing the Army, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts, Gilgit-Baltistan, Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Islamabad are expected to participate.

Several institutional and cycling teams will also compete, including Kareng Aidak and the Pakistan Cycling Academy.

The Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) has introduced an Open Masters category this year, allowing cyclists from Karachi and other areas of the country to participate in the national competition.

Para-cycling will also be part of the championship, providing cyclists with disabilities an opportunity to compete at the national level and demonstrate their abilities.

The federation said accommodation and other necessary arrangements had been made at Bahria Town Karachi for athletes and officials travelling from different parts of the country.

The closing ceremony and prize distribution will be held at 4pm on October 11.

PCF President Syed Azhar Ali Shah said national sporting events provide young people with opportunities to participate in positive activities while helping promote cycling across Pakistan.
