PSG Beat Le Mans 3-1 as Monaco Remain Ligue 1 Leaders Despite Draw

Sports Correspondent: Imran Sohail

Paris Saint-Germain returned to winning ways in Ligue 1 with a 3-1 victory over Le Mans on Saturday, while league leaders AS Monaco dropped points after surrendering a two-goal advantage in a 2-2 draw against Toulouse.

PSG secured all three points at the Parc des Princes, with Lucas Beraldo opening the scoring from the penalty spot before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Maghnes Akliouche added second-half goals.

The result moved the defending champions to fifth place with 11 points from six matches.

The match was also notable for Akliouche, who scored his first goal for PSG after joining the club from Monaco at the start of the season.

The contest took place amid a tense atmosphere, with a banner referring to student protests in France displayed in the stadium. Scuffles reportedly broke out as police attempted to remove it, leading to the temporary evacuation of an entire stand.

On the pitch, Beraldo gave PSG the lead by converting a first-half penalty. Le Mans responded after the break when Louis Mafouta struck his fourth Ligue 1 goal of the season to bring the visitors level.

PSG manager Luis Enrique then made four substitutions shortly before the hour mark, a decision that quickly paid off.

Kvaratskhelia came off the bench and restored PSG’s advantage just two minutes later, reacting quickly to a rebound to put the hosts ahead.

Akliouche added the third goal to strengthen PSG’s position and give the home side greater control of the match.

PSG had an opportunity to extend their lead further in stoppage time, but goalkeeper Nicolas Kocik saved Desire Doue’s penalty.

Monaco Drop Points After Losing Two-Goal Lead

Monaco remained at the top of the Ligue 1 standings despite being held to a 2-2 draw by Toulouse at home.

The hosts appeared firmly in control after scoring twice in the first half. Edan Diop opened the scoring before setting up Matthis Abline, who netted his first goal for Monaco following his move from Nantes.

However, Toulouse produced a strong response after the interval.

Casper Tengstedt reduced the deficit with a penalty shortly after half-time, giving the visitors renewed hope of getting back into the contest.

Teenager Sion Oppong then scored his first goal for Toulouse to complete the comeback and secure a valuable point for the visitors.

The draw left Monaco with 14 points, maintaining their position at the top of the table with a one-point advantage over Lille.

Lille Secure Narrow Win Against Le Havre

Lille briefly moved to the top of the standings after recording a 1-0 home victory over Le Havre.

Dilane Bakwa scored the decisive goal in the fifth minute, giving Lille an early advantage.

Le Havre attempted to recover but faced a setback when Ayumu Seko was sent off shortly after the hour mark for a professional foul.

Despite being reduced to 10 players, the visitors continued to challenge Lille, but the hosts held on to secure the win.

Monaco subsequently moved back above Lille in the standings following their draw against Toulouse.

Lorient Defeat Paris FC

Lorient claimed a 1-0 victory over Paris FC, with Gabin Bernardeau scoring the only goal in the 68th minute.

Paris FC enjoyed a greater share of possession but struggled to turn their control into clear scoring opportunities.

The defeat left Paris FC in fourth place, ahead of local rivals PSG on goal difference.

Brest Cruise to Victory Against Angers

Brest produced an impressive attacking performance to defeat Angers 5-1 after scoring four goals in the first half.

Ludovic Ajorque, Lucas Tousart, Kenny Lala, Mama Balde and Pathe Mboup all found the net for Brest, while Prosper Peter scored Angers’ only goal.

Angers’ task became even more difficult when Jordan Lefort received a red card in the 59th minute.

The result completed an eventful day of Ligue 1 action, with PSG strengthening their position in the standings, Monaco retaining the lead and several other clubs collecting important points.
