Astronauts Temporarily Take Shelter During International Space Station Leak Repair
NASA briefly directed astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) to move into a docked spacecraft as a precaution while repairs were carried out to address a new leak.
Crew Moved as Precaution
According to NASA, the five-member crew temporarily sheltered inside a SpaceX capsule attached to the station while Russian cosmonauts worked on repairs in the affected section of the orbiting laboratory.
Officials said the measure was taken “out of an abundance of caution” to ensure crew safety during the maintenance work.
Return to Normal Operations
After repair efforts were paused, the astronauts returned to their regular duties aboard the station. NASA confirmed that normal operations resumed following the temporary safety procedure.
Ongoing Structural Concerns
The affected area is part of the Russian segment of the ISS, which has experienced cracks and minor leaks over time. Space agencies have been monitoring the issue and conducting ongoing assessments to determine the cause.
Continued Investigation
NASA and Roscosmos are working together to investigate the source of the structural issues and plan further repairs if needed.
