Pakistan’s Mobile Phone Imports Reach $1.89 Billion in FY2025–26

Pakistan imported $1.889 billion worth of mobile phones during FY2025–26, reflecting a 26.55% increase compared with $1.492 billion recorded in the previous fiscal year, according to official trade data.

In Pakistani rupees, mobile phone imports increased to Rs. 530.492 billion, up from Rs. 416.937 billion in FY2024–25, representing a 27.24% year-on-year increase.

Monthly Imports Show Continued Growth

During June 2026, mobile phone imports were valued at $141.556 million, an increase of 11.88% compared with $126.527 million in May.

On a year-on-year basis, June imports also recorded a 2.62% increase from $137.941 million in June 2025.

The latest figures follow a decline in FY2024–25, when Pakistan imported $1.494 billion worth of mobile phones, down from $1.898 billion in FY2023–24.

Telecom Imports Also Increase

Overall imports of telecommunications equipment recorded notable growth during FY2025–26.

According to official data, telecom imports reached $2.690 billion, compared with $2.102 billion in the previous fiscal year, representing an increase of 27.97%.

Locally Assembled Phones Continue to Lead

Despite the increase in imported handsets, locally assembled mobile phones remained the dominant source of devices in Pakistan.

During the first five months of 2026, local manufacturing and assembly plants produced 11.17 million mobile phones, while 1.91 million handsets were imported through commercial channels.

Of the locally assembled devices:

  • 4.92 million were smartphones.
  • 6.25 million were 2G feature phones.

In May 2026, local manufacturers also assembled 101,005 smartphones with 5G capability.

Smartphone Adoption Continues to Grow

According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), smartphones account for 72.3% of mobile devices currently operating on Pakistani mobile networks, while the remaining 27.7% are 2G feature phones.
