At least 11 killed as flash floods sweep Swat

Flash Floods in Swat Claim 11 Lives; Rescue Operations Continue Amid Heavy Rainfall

SWAT – Torrential rains over the past two days have led to devastating flash floods in Swat, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 11 lives and leaving several others missing, according to local authorities.

The continuous downpour has caused water levels in the Swat River to rise dangerously, prompting officials to issue a high alert for surrounding communities. Rescue efforts are ongoing in multiple flood-affected areas across the region.

At Fiza Gat, flash floods swept away a group of 10 tourists, including women and children. So far, two bodies have been recovered, and search efforts continue. Meanwhile, at the Bypass location, 17 individuals were reported to have drowned. Rescue teams have retrieved four bodies and successfully saved three people from the water.

In Khwazakhela, heavy rainfall caused a house roof to collapse, resulting in the death of a 7-year-old girl, identified as Zuneina. Emergency responders quickly reached the site, but the child could not be saved.

Operations are also underway in other hard-hit areas, including Manyar, Ghaligai, and Panjigram, where multiple residents were rescued from rising floodwaters. Authorities report that all stranded individuals in Mettah — estimated to be between 20 and 30 people — have been safely evacuated.

In Mardan, 22 people trapped by floodwaters in Imam Dheri were successfully rescued without injury.

Local officials continue to urge residents, especially those living near the Swat River, to evacuate immediately as the water levels remain dangerously high. The authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have dispatched additional emergency teams to support ongoing operations.

Despite the challenges posed by rapidly moving waters and difficult terrain, rescue teams remain committed to saving lives and assisting all those affected by this natural disaster.
