No Action Planned Against Former COAS General (R) Qamar Javed Bajwa, Source Confirms
Speculation circulating on social media about possible action against former army chief General (R) Qamar Javed Bajwa has been dismissed as baseless by an informed source. The source firmly denied rumors that any action is under consideration against the former Chief of Army Staff (COAS).
Despite the social media buzz, including a widely circulated WhatsApp message labeled as an “intelligence report,” the source confirmed that these claims are entirely unfounded. The post in question suggested that General (R) Bajwa might face consequences similar to those of Lt. Gen (R) Faiz Hameed, who was recently arrested and is facing a Field General Court Martial. It also speculated that additional security had been deployed around General Bajwa’s residence in anticipation of potential future actions. The source, however, clarified that these claims are false, and General (R) Bajwa has quietly accepted no such increased security measures.
According to the source, General (R) Bajwa is currently in Dubai and is expected to return to Pakistan in the coming days. The “fake” social media post is said to have originated from a retired military officer who is known for his anti-army campaigns and has previously been sentenced to 14 years in jail by a Field General Court Martial under the Pakistan Army Act, 1952, for inciting sedition and violating the Official Secrets Act, 1923.
This recent wave of speculation comes on the heels of the arrest of Lt. Gen (R) Faiz Hameed, former Director-General of ISI, who is facing charges of corruption and multiple violations of the Pakistan Army Act post-retirement. The ISPR has not commented on the rumors regarding General (R) Bajwa.
Notably, both PTI founder Imran Khan and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif have publicly called for General (R) Bajwa’s accountability, raising questions about whether these statements reflect personal views or are part of a broader political strategy. However, Speaker of the Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmed Khan has contradicted Khawaja Asif’s statements, further adding to the complexity of the situation.
As of now, the claims regarding any action against General (R) Qamar Javed Bajwa remain unsubstantiated, and no official confirmation has been provided by the military authorities.
