Avalanche Advance to Western Conference Final After Dramatic 4-3 Overtime Win Over Wild
The Colorado Avalanche advanced to the Western Conference Final after a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory over the Minnesota Wild in Game 5 on Wednesday night.
Defenseman Brett Kulak scored the decisive goal just 3:52 into overtime, sealing a dramatic comeback win for Colorado and ending the series at home for the first time in 18 years.
The Avalanche had earlier staged a strong fightback after trailing 3-0 midway through the second period. Star forward Nathan MacKinnon played a key role in the comeback, scoring a crucial late equalizer with just 1:23 remaining in regulation to force overtime.
MacKinnon’s goal came after Colorado pulled their goaltender, with the forward finding the top corner from the left side to bring the crowd back into the game.
With the momentum fully shifted, Kulak delivered the final blow in overtime, scoring his first goal since January in one of the most important moments of the season for Colorado.
Kulak said after the match that he was not typically the player expected to deliver game-winning moments, making the goal even more special for him and the team.
The Avalanche now move forward to the Western Conference Final for the eighth time since relocating to Denver in 1995–96. They will face the winner of the series between the Vegas Golden Knights and Anaheim Ducks, with Vegas currently leading the matchup.
