Singapore’s leading sprinter Veronica Shanti Pereira has qualified for the women’s 200m semi-finals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after delivering a season-best performance in the opening round.

Pereira clocked 23.00 seconds in the heats on Wednesday, securing her place in the next stage of the competition.

Strong Performance in the Heats

Competing in Heat 5, Pereira finished second in her race and recorded the third-fastest time overall across all qualifying heats.

Jamaica’s Lavanya Williams won Pereira’s heat in 22.91 seconds, while Alana Reid posted the second-fastest qualifying time overall with 22.95 seconds.

Another Opportunity for a Medal

The reigning Asian Games 200m champion had earlier reached the semi-finals of the women’s 100m event but narrowly missed out on a place in the final.

Her personal best in the 200m remains 22.57 seconds, and her latest performance marks her fastest run of the 2026 season.

Other Qualifiers

Bahamas sprinter Anthonique Strachan also advanced to the semi-finals after recording a season-best time of 23.52 seconds.

A total of 17 athletes qualified through the heats and will be joined by seven automatic qualifiers in the women’s 200m semi-finals, scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 30.

Pereira will now aim to continue her impressive campaign as she competes for a place in the Commonwealth Games 200m final.
