Delhi Hotel Fire Leaves at Least 21 Dead, Authorities Say
A fire at a hotel in India’s capital, New Delhi, has claimed at least 21 lives, according to police officials. Rescue operations are ongoing, with authorities confirming that dozens of people have been evacuated from the building.
Rescue and emergency response
Officials said at least 40 people have been rescued so far as emergency teams continue search and rescue efforts at the site.
The hotel is located in Malviya Nagar, South Delhi, a densely populated residential area home to students and working professionals.
Fire spreads through building
Preliminary reports suggest the fire broke out in a multi-storey building that also had a restaurant operating on the ground floor. Authorities believe the fire may have originated in or near that section, although the exact cause is still under investigation.
Television footage from the scene showed thick smoke, flames, and significant damage to parts of the building. Some visuals also showed people attempting to escape from upper floors during the incident.
Investigation underway
Local authorities have launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the fire and assess whether safety regulations were followed at the site.
Officials said further details will be shared once the investigation progresses.
