The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has requested the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block several websites and social media pages involved in the sale of unregistered and unauthorized medicines.

According to DRAP, a number of online platforms are promoting unapproved therapeutic products, particularly in categories such as sexual health, weight loss, and mental health treatments. The authority said this growing trend poses a serious risk to public health.

Officials stated that some of these medicines are suspected to be smuggled and sold without proper authorization or medical prescriptions. Such products are not regulated under Pakistan’s drug laws and may contain unsafe or misleading ingredients.

DRAP emphasized that selling unregistered medicines online is a violation of the Drugs Act, 1976, and can lead to serious health complications for consumers, including long-term side effects or life-threatening conditions.

The regulator has identified multiple websites allegedly involved in the illegal sale of medicines and has also requested the removal of related advertisements from social media platforms.

Authorities warned that strict legal action will be taken against individuals and companies involved in such activities, including fines, product seizures, and possible prosecution.

DRAP has also advised the public to avoid purchasing medicines from unverified online sources and to rely only on licensed pharmacies and authorized healthcare providers.

The agency further stressed that all pharmaceutical advertising must receive prior approval to prevent the spread of misleading or harmful medical claims online.
