Electricity Consumers to Receive Relief as NEPRA Approves Tariff Adjustment

Electricity consumers across Pakistan are expected to benefit from tariff adjustments approved by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), which will provide relief over the next three months.

According to an official notification, NEPRA has approved a reduction of Rs. 1.99 per unit under the quarterly tariff adjustment mechanism for the period January to March 2026. This adjustment will remain applicable for June, July, and August electricity bills.

The relief is expected to ease electricity costs for consumers during the summer months, with overall savings estimated at tens of billions of rupees.

In addition to the reduction, NEPRA has also approved a fuel cost adjustment (FCA) increase of Rs. 1.19 per unit for electricity consumed in April 2026. This adjustment will be reflected in June bills.

As a result of both changes, consumers will experience a net decrease in electricity rates for the month of June, followed by continued relief in the subsequent two months due to the quarterly adjustment.

The regulator noted that the approved fuel cost adjustment was lower than the initial request submitted by the power purchasing authorities.

According to NEPRA, the quarterly tariff reduction is based on adjustments in capacity charges, transmission costs, and other operational factors within the power sector.

The relief package is expected to benefit a wide range of electricity consumers, although certain categories, including lifeline users and specific prepaid consumer groups, may be treated differently under the adjustment mechanism.

Officials said the move is part of ongoing efforts to stabilize electricity pricing and provide some financial relief to consumers during periods of high demand.
