Former Karachi BRT Director Reportedly Missing After Corruption Case
Former Director of the Karachi Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Yellow Line Project, Zameer Ahmed Abbasi, has reportedly gone missing in Lahore shortly after being named in a multi-billion-rupee corruption case linked to the project.
A kidnapping case has been registered at the Defence-C Police Station on the complaint of his father, Muhammad Panah, against unidentified individuals.
Incident Details
According to the First Information Report (FIR), Abbasi, a Grade-19 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, was staying at a residence in DHA Phase VIII, Lahore, when the alleged incident took place on June 12, 2026.
The complaint states that a group of 15 to 20 unidentified individuals, some reportedly dressed in police uniforms and others in plain clothes, entered the residence and took him away at gunpoint.
His father further stated that Abbasi has not appeared before any court and has not returned home since the incident. A petition has also been filed in the Lahore High Court seeking his recovery and legal action.
Background of Corruption Case
The incident comes after the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) registered a case against Abbasi over alleged financial irregularities in the World Bank-assisted Karachi Yellow Line BRT project.
Authorities allege that an advance payment of Rs. 8.5 billion was approved for contractors in violation of contract rules, causing significant financial concerns for the provincial government.
Ongoing Investigation
The case also includes other officials connected to procurement and project management. The matter is based on findings from an inquiry conducted by the Chief Minister’s Inspection, Enquiries and Implementation Team (CMIE&ITD).
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding Abbasi’s current whereabouts. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
