France and Spain Split Four-Game Series at Spain Softball Week
SANT BOI DE LLOBREGAT, Spain — France and Spain shared the spoils in a closely contested four-game softball series during Spain Softball Week, held from 8 to 11 July at the Sant Boi Baseball & Softball Field near Barcelona.
Spain, ranked 15th in the world, and France, ranked 21st, each won two games in an evenly matched series.
Spain took the opening game 6–3, while France responded by winning the second game 5–2. The third game went into extra innings, with Spain narrowly claiming a 5–4 victory in a nine-inning thriller. France then levelled the series by winning the fourth game 7–4.
All four matches were streamed live on the Royal Spanish Baseball and Softball Federation’s official YouTube channel.
The Sant Boi venue, which hosted the series, is also scheduled to stage the Women’s Softball Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifier for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games in September 2027. The tournament will feature five European teams and one African team competing for a single qualification spot in the six-team Olympic softball competition.
Neither France nor Spain qualified for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup 2026/27. Both teams are now preparing for upcoming international competitions, including the 2027 Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifier and the Women’s Softball European Championship in Stuttgart, Germany.
France and Spain previously met in the Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifier for Tokyo 2020, held in Utrecht, Netherlands, where both teams finished tied for fifth place.
