Government Reduces Gwadar Port Charges to Boost Trade Activity
The federal government has announced significant reductions in tariffs at Gwadar Port to encourage international shipping activity and strengthen the port’s role as a regional trade and logistics hub.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said berthing charges for container vessels have been reduced by 25 percent, while port charges on international transshipment containers have been lowered by 40 percent.
In addition, charges on transit container cargo have been reduced by up to 31 percent. The government has also extended the free storage period for general cargo from five days to one month.
According to the minister, the revised tariff structure is designed to provide operational relief to ships carrying transit and transshipment cargo. He said the incentives offered at Gwadar Port are part of a broader strategy to improve regional connectivity and attract more commercial activity.
Officials believe the new measures will help reduce operational costs for shipping companies, increase cargo handling at the port, and support economic growth in the region.
Chairman Gwadar Port Noor ul Haq Baloch stated that the tariff reductions are expected to promote maritime trade and create employment opportunities in Balochistan by encouraging greater shipping and business activity at the port.
