The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed a penalty on Pakistan for a slow over-rate during their opening match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 against India at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

According to the ICC, Pakistan were found to be one over short of the required bowling rate after time allowances were considered. As a result, the team was fined five percent of their match fee under the ICC Code of Conduct regulations related to over-rate offenses.

The charge was accepted by Pakistan captain Fatima Sana after being brought forward by the match officials, meaning no formal hearing was required.

The match itself saw India post a competitive total of 170/6 in 20 overs, led by a half-century from Smriti Mandhana and a useful late contribution from Richa Ghosh.

In response, Pakistan were bowled out for 106 in 17 overs. Muneeba Ali top-scored with 41 runs, while Aliya Riaz contributed 18 runs.

India’s bowling attack performed strongly, with Deepti Sharma taking five wickets to help secure a comfortable win.

Pakistan will play their next group match against South Africa in Birmingham as the tournament continues.
