India’s Men’s Foil Team Secures Asian Games Qualification at Asian Fencing Championships 2026

India’s men’s foil team earned direct qualification for the next Asian Games after finishing eighth at the Asian Fencing Championships 2026, which concluded in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The Indian team, consisting of Sachin, Sanasam Hemash Singh, Tejas Manoj Patil and Aditya, delivered a strong performance to secure a top-eight finish and book their place at the continental multi-sport event.
Meanwhile, India’s women’s epee team, represented by Prachi Lohan, Taniksha Khatri, Mitva Jesangbhai Chaudhari and Yashkeerat Kaur Hayer, finished ninth in their team competition.
The six-day championship brought together more than 400 athletes from over 34 countries, competing across foil, epee and sabre events in both individual and team categories.
Japan emerged as the most successful nation of the tournament, topping the medal standings with six gold, five silver and four bronze medals. South Korea finished second, while Kazakhstan secured third place in the overall rankings.
One of the standout performers of the event was South Korean fencer Oh Sang-uk, who captured gold medals in both the individual and team men’s sabre events.
For India, Kanupriya Chawla recorded the country’s best individual result by finishing 20th in the women’s foil event. Prachi Lohan placed 22nd in women’s epee, while Sachin finished 25th in the men’s foil category.
Indian Olympian Bhavani Devi also represented the country in the women’s sabre competition and finished among the top competitors.
The championships provided valuable international experience for Indian fencers and highlighted the continued progress of the sport in the country. Securing Asian Games qualification marks an important achievement for India’s men’s foil team and offers a strong platform for future success on the continental stage.
