Israel deal concerns lead Saudi Arabia’s MBS to ‘fear for his life’

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Expresses Assassination Fears Over Potential Saudi-Israel Normalization

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman has reportedly expressed concerns about his safety due to his support for normalizing relations between Saudi Arabia and Israel. According to a report by US publication Politico, the crown prince shared his fears with members of the US Congress, citing the assassination of former Egyptian leader Anwar Sadat, who was killed after signing a peace deal with Israel in the 1980s.

The Politico report revealed that the crown prince has also discussed the threats he faces, emphasizing the importance of including a genuine path to a Palestinian state as part of any agreement. This condition has gained even more significance following the recent conflict in Gaza, which has intensified anger in the Arab world toward Israel.

The developing agreement between Saudi Arabia and the United States is said to involve several key commitments, including security guarantees through a treaty, assistance with a civilian nuclear program, and economic investments in technology and other areas. In return, Saudi Arabia would reportedly limit its dealings with China and establish diplomatic relations with Israel.

However, the report noted that the Israeli government has so far been reluctant to include a credible path to a Palestinian state in the agreement, much to the frustration of the Saudi crown prince. Politico described these diplomatic efforts as “a clever diplomatic marketing strategy” by Riyadh.
