Jos Buttler Ruled Out of England’s ODI Series in Pakistan

England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler will miss the upcoming ODI series in Pakistan after suffering a hamstring injury during the team’s recent match against Sri Lanka.
Buttler was forced to leave the field after picking up the injury during the ODI at Headingley last week. Although he later returned to bat, he was clearly struggling with the problem.
The 36-year-old was subsequently left out of England’s 223-run victory over Sri Lanka at The Oval on Sunday.
Buttler Unavailable for October Matches
England limited-overs head coach Brendon McCullum confirmed that Buttler will not travel to Pakistan for the upcoming tri-series involving England, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
“Jos won’t be in Pakistan,” McCullum said.
The England coach said Buttler is working to recover as quickly as possible but added that it is difficult to predict exactly how long the injury will take to heal.
McCullum also acknowledged that Buttler’s absence is a setback but said it provides an opportunity for other players to establish themselves in the team.
Buttler Reaches Major International Milestone
Buttler recently became the first England batter to score 10,000 runs in international white-ball cricket, combining his performances in ODIs and T20 internationals.
His absence will therefore leave England without one of their most experienced limited-overs players for the Pakistan leg of the competition.
Jordan Cox Gets Another Opportunity
Buttler’s injury is expected to give Jordan Cox another opportunity behind the stumps.
Cox made his return to England’s ODI team against Sri Lanka at The Oval, having last played an ODI for England in 2024.
The wicketkeeper-batter made an immediate impact, scoring 76 runs from 52 balls in England’s big win.
England are scheduled to play two matches against Pakistan and two against Sri Lanka in the tri-series, followed by a potential final.
Cox’s performances during the tournament could therefore play an important role in England’s plans while Buttler continues his recovery.
