Mohammad Abbas Joins Elite List with 100 Away Test Wickets
Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Abbas has achieved a major career milestone by completing 100 wickets in away Test matches during the second Test against Bangladesh in Sylhet.
The experienced pacer reached the landmark when he dismissed Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto on the opening day of the match. It was his third wicket of the innings, after earlier removing both openers Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Tanzid Hasan.
Elite company for Pakistan pacer
With this achievement, Abbas became only the sixth Pakistani fast bowler to take 100 or more wickets in away Test cricket. He joins an elite group that includes Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Imran Khan, Mohammad Amir, and Umar Gul.
What makes his record even more notable is his consistency. Among Pakistani pacers with over 100 away Test wickets, Abbas holds the best bowling average, highlighting his effectiveness in foreign conditions.
Strong record in overseas conditions
Since making his Test debut in 2017, Abbas has taken the majority of his wickets outside Pakistan. He now has more than 100 Test wickets overall, with only a small portion coming in home conditions.
At the start of the Sylhet Test, he continued his strong form from the previous match, where he also delivered a key bowling performance, including a five-wicket haul in the series opener.
Consistent impact in ongoing series
Abbas made an immediate impact in the second Test as well, striking early in the innings and putting pressure on the Bangladesh batting lineup with disciplined line and length.
His performance continues to strengthen his reputation as one of Pakistan’s most reliable Test bowlers, particularly in overseas conditions.
