NA Committee Urges Government to Engage Apple for Official Presence in Pakistan
The National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology has called on the Ministry of Information Technology to engage with Apple and explore the possibility of the company establishing an official presence in Pakistan.
During a committee meeting held on Tuesday, Chairman Syed Amin Ul Haque questioned why Apple has not yet expanded its official operations to Pakistan while maintaining a presence in several other regional markets.
He suggested that Pakistan should also be considered as a potential destination for the company’s future expansion.
Government Shares Current Status
Minister of State for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja informed the committee that premium smartphones, including Apple iPhones and Google Pixel devices, are already available in Pakistan through imports. She noted that these products are subject to the country’s applicable customs duties and taxes.
Committee Encourages Greater Global Tech Investment
Committee members observed that several international technology companies already have an established presence in Pakistan and expressed the view that greater participation by global technology firms could benefit consumers and the country’s digital ecosystem.
The discussion focused on encouraging continued engagement with international technology companies as part of broader efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s information technology sector and attract additional foreign investment.
