NDMA Issues Nationwide Weather Alert, Declares Next 24 Hours Critical
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide weather alert, warning of thunderstorms, strong winds, heavy rainfall, and possible flooding in several parts of Pakistan over the next 12 to 24 hours.
According to the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), the prevailing weather conditions are consistent with earlier seasonal forecasts. The NDMA said it is continuously sharing updates and risk assessments with federal, provincial, and district authorities to ensure preparedness and timely response.
Risk of Flooding in Multiple Regions
The authority has warned that mountainous areas in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) may face an increased risk of flash floods, landslides, and glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs).
Several districts in Punjab, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Murree, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan, are expected to experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms, strong winds, and dust storms. Similar weather conditions are also forecast for Islamabad, Balochistan, Sindh, KP, GB, and AJK.
The NDMA has also cautioned about possible urban flooding in low-lying areas during periods of heavy rainfall.
Authorities on High Alert
District administrations and emergency response teams have been placed on alert, with instructions to remain prepared for any developing situation.
Citizens, tourists, and travelers have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions and to check road and weather updates before visiting northern areas, where landslides and flooding may disrupt movement.
The NDMA further urged the public to stay informed through official alerts and to contact local emergency services in case of any urgent situation.
