Norris expects McLaren to challenge for podium in Singapore

Formula One world champion Lando Norris believes McLaren can return to competitive form at the Singapore Grand Prix after a difficult run in the previous two races.
Norris has enjoyed strong results at the Marina Bay Street Circuit in recent years. He won the Singapore Grand Prix in 2024 and also secured podium finishes in 2023 and 2025.
The British driver had appeared to be in excellent form earlier this season after winning consecutive races in Hungary and the Netherlands. However, McLaren have struggled to maintain that level in the four races since then.
Norris has managed just one podium during that period, finishing among the top three in Spain last month. The team’s lack of straight-line speed has also affected its results, with Norris scoring only two points across the races in Azerbaijan and Malaysia.
Despite those setbacks, Norris remains optimistic that McLaren have identified some of the problems and can make a stronger showing in Singapore.
The Singapore weekend will feature a sprint race and could also be affected by rain, while the hot and humid conditions are expected to add another challenge for the drivers and teams.
Norris said he was hopeful that some of the performance McLaren had been missing would return at the Marina Bay circuit.
“It’ll be good to see this weekend if some of that performance that we were missing does come back,” Norris said.
The McLaren driver added that he would need to get out on the track before making a clear assessment of the team’s progress.
Singapore could suit McLaren better because the circuit places less emphasis on outright straight-line speed than some of the tracks where the team struggled recently.
“They did a lot of work just trying to figure out things. I’m hopeful that it will be better this weekend, but honestly I’ll get on the track and see,” Norris said.
Norris has also been a strong performer in sprint events this season, finishing on the podium in four of the previous sprint races.
McLaren will now hope that the Singapore circuit allows Norris and the team to rediscover the pace that helped him secure the world championship and back-to-back victories earlier in the season.
