Pakistan Test Captaincy Under Review as PCB Considers Leadership Changes
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly reviewing the position of Test captain ahead of upcoming international tours, with possible changes being considered in the red-ball leadership setup.
According to sources, discussions are ongoing regarding the future of Shan Masood as Test captain. The PCB is evaluating team performance and long-term planning as part of its restructuring strategy for Test cricket.
Shan Masood was appointed Pakistan’s Test captain in 2023. Since then, he has led the side in several series, including tours of Australia and home assignments. During his tenure, Pakistan has experienced mixed results, with both wins and losses in different series.
Reports suggest that Salman Ali Agha, who currently leads Pakistan in T20I cricket, is among the players being considered for a potential leadership role in Test cricket. However, no final decision has been announced yet.
The final approval regarding captaincy is expected from PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi after consultations with selectors and team management.
Pakistan is preparing for upcoming Test assignments, including tours of England and the West Indies. The team is expected to announce its squad soon, while preparations continue for the red-ball series scheduled in July and August.
The West Indies tour will include a four-day warm-up match followed by Test matches in Trinidad and Tobago. After that, Pakistan will tour England, where they are scheduled to play matches in Leeds, London (Lord’s), and Birmingham.
