PCB Introduces $200,000 Cricket Development Award for PSL Franchises

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has introduced a new $200,000 PSL Cricket Development Excellence Award to recognize the Pakistan Super League franchise that makes the strongest contribution to the development of cricket in Pakistan.
The inaugural award will evaluate development initiatives undertaken by PSL franchises from the third edition of the league through PSL 11.
According to the PCB, the initiative aims to acknowledge franchises that have made sustained investments in cricket, created structured pathways for players and contributed to the professional growth of cricketers.
How the Award Will Be Decided
Under the new system, each PSL franchise will initially assess its own development work using a scoring framework prepared by the league.
Franchises will submit their scores along with supporting evidence. A five-member assessment committee, consisting of independent experts and PCB stakeholders, will then review the submissions using documented evidence and measurable data.
The committee’s assessment will account for 80% of the final score, while the remaining 20% will be determined through a fan vote.
Before the voting process starts, each franchise will publish a presentation detailing its cricket development initiatives through the PSL’s official social media platforms. Fans will then have an opportunity to review the presentations and vote.
Player Development Gets Highest Weight
The player pathways and development category carries the highest weight at 25%.
The remaining categories are:
- Grassroots and domestic engagement: 20%
- High-performance infrastructure and innovation: 15%
- Player impact and match contribution: 10%
- Player welfare and education: 10%
Under the player pathways category, franchises will be assessed on their identification of new and uncapped players, their development and progression, and the opportunities provided to them beyond the PSL.
The player impact section will focus on players discovered or scouted by franchises, including their contributions in matches and how their roles developed within their teams.
Infrastructure and Player Welfare
The high-performance infrastructure and innovation category will assess facilities, staffing, development systems and the use of technology.
Player welfare and education will cover areas such as financial literacy, educational assistance, mental health support systems, media training, anti-doping and anti-corruption awareness, and preparation for careers after professional cricket.
Focus on Grassroots Cricket
The grassroots and domestic engagement category will include both men’s and women’s cricket.
Franchises will also be assessed on coaching clinics for children, school and club cricket initiatives, and their participation in PCB-organized competitions and activities.
Award Criteria to Change After PSL 11
The PCB said the assessment criteria will be adjusted after PSL 11.
Starting next year, the award will consider only cricket development activities carried out between the two most recent editions of the PSL, rather than reviewing a longer historical period.
The PCB will announce further information about the five-member assessment committee and the schedule for fan voting at a later stage.
