Players Arrive Early at Shinnecock Hills Ahead of U.S. Open Practice Rounds

Several top golfers have begun arriving early at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York, as preparations intensify ahead of the U.S. Open.

Players are using the early days at the venue to familiarize themselves with the course and avoid the long delays that often come with busy practice schedules at major championships.

According to players, practice rounds at major events have become increasingly crowded, making it difficult to complete full rounds in a short time. Some golfers have opted to visit the course earlier in order to complete their preparation more efficiently.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and four-time major winner Rory McIlroy were among those who made an early visit to Shinnecock Hills before continuing their schedule in Ohio.

Other top players, including Jon Rahm, have also arrived early to study course conditions, while several competitors are using extended practice time to adjust to the challenging layout and coastal winds.

The strategy of early course visits has become more common in recent years as players look to reduce waiting times and maximize preparation ahead of major tournaments.

Shinnecock Hills is expected to provide a demanding test, with players focusing on adapting to firm fairways, fast greens, and changing wind conditions typical of U.S. Open setups.

Tournament week will continue with official practice rounds before competition begins.
