PMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall for Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Advises Public to Stay Alert

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in Islamabad and Rawalpindi over the next two days, warning that heavy rainfall could lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas.

According to the latest weather advisory, significant rainfall is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday, prompting authorities and residents to take necessary precautions.

Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Expected

The PMD said a combination of weather systems is expected to increase rainfall activity across northern Pakistan.

Moist air currents from the Arabian Sea are already affecting the upper parts of the country, while additional moisture from the Bay of Bengal is expected to reach northeastern regions. A westerly weather system is also likely to strengthen rain and thunderstorm activity.

Several Punjab Districts Also Likely to Receive Rain

In addition to Islamabad and Rawalpindi, rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is expected in several areas, including:

  • Murree
  • Galiyat
  • Attock
  • Chakwal
  • Jhelum
  • Gujrat
  • Gujranwala
  • Faisalabad
  • Lahore
  • Sheikhupura
  • Sialkot
  • Narowal
  • Sahiwal
  • Okara
  • Kasur

PMD Issues Safety Advisory

The weather department warned that strong winds and lightning could damage vulnerable infrastructure, including electricity poles, billboards, trees, and rooftop solar panels.

Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain and to follow instructions issued by local authorities. Emergency services and relevant departments have also been urged to remain prepared for any weather-related incidents.

The PMD added that the expected rainfall is likely to bring relief from the recent hot and humid weather conditions across the affected regions.
