Proposal to Include Political Figures on Currency Note Draws Attention
A suggestion made by a provincial lawmaker regarding Pakistan’s currency design has sparked discussion in political circles.
During a session of the Punjab Assembly, MPA Arshad Malik proposed that the country’s highest-denomination Rs. 5,000 note should feature both Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
He stated that Nawaz Sharif has contributed to national development and should be recognized alongside the founder of Pakistan on official currency.
The proposal was presented as a personal opinion during assembly proceedings and has not been formally adopted or reviewed by any financial authority.
There has been no indication from the State Bank of Pakistan or the federal government that such a change is under consideration at this time.
Currency design decisions in Pakistan are made by the State Bank of Pakistan in consultation with relevant government institutions, and any changes require official approval through proper channels.
