Ufone to Launch 5G Services in Pakistan After PTA Approval
Pakistan’s telecom sector is moving forward with next-generation connectivity as Ufone prepares to roll out its 5G services. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has officially granted the company permission to begin commercial operations.
The regulator issued a commencement letter, which is a key requirement before launching 5G services. Following this approval, Ufone is expected to introduce its 5G network in the coming days.
Before receiving this clearance, telecom operators are required to conduct testing across selected network sites. PTA evaluates these sites to ensure they meet technical and service standards. Once satisfied, the authority allows companies to proceed with full commercial deployment.
Pakistan’s 5G spectrum auction took place on March 10, 2026, where a total of 480 MHz spectrum was allocated among major telecom operators. Jazz acquired 190 MHz, Ufone secured 180 MHz, and Zong obtained 110 MHz. The assignment phase was completed on March 14, enabling operators to begin network planning and rollout.
Jazz and Zong were the first to launch their 5G services shortly after receiving licences. Their initial deployments covered key cities, including Islamabad and other major urban centers, with services expanding across multiple locations.
With Ufone now entering the 5G space, competition in Pakistan’s telecom industry is expected to grow, improving connectivity and digital services for users nationwide.
