Punjab Introduces Pink Salt Financing Scheme with Loans of Up to Rs. 50 Million
The Punjab government has launched the Chief Minister Pink Salt Value Addition Financing Scheme, a new initiative aimed at strengthening the province’s pink salt industry by supporting local processing, value addition, exports, and employment opportunities.
Under the program, eligible businesses can apply for soft loans ranging from Rs. 5 million to Rs. 50 million. The financing will be repayable in easy installments over a period of five years, making it more accessible for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Supporting Local Industry
The scheme is designed to encourage investment in pink salt processing, refining, packaging, and the purchase of modern machinery. It also seeks to help businesses improve product quality and meet international standards, enhancing the competitiveness of Pakistani pink salt in global markets.
To reduce financing costs, the Punjab government will bear the interest on the loans through funding provided under the Annual Development Program (ADP).
Focus on SMEs and Employment
According to official details, the initiative is expected to support around 200 small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Authorities estimate that the program could generate more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs across the pink salt value chain.
The financing scheme is part of a broader strategy to encourage industrial growth while increasing the value of locally produced mineral resources before export.
New Processing Zones Planned
The government also plans to establish dedicated pink salt mineral processing zones on approximately 110 acres of land in Quaidabad, Khushab district.
More than 200 industrial units are expected to be developed within these zones, creating opportunities for manufacturing, packaging, and other value-added industries linked to the pink salt sector.
Digital Application Process
To improve transparency and efficiency, the Punjab Mines and Minerals Department has digitized the application and approval process, allowing businesses to complete financing procedures more quickly.
Officials say the initiative is also intended to strengthen the international recognition of Pakistani pink salt by promoting exports under the “Made in Pakistan” brand, helping local producers capture greater value in global markets.
