Ryan Blaney Claims Dramatic NASCAR Cup Victory After Thrilling Overtime Finish at Atlanta

Ryan Blaney delivered an impressive performance to win the NASCAR Cup Series race at EchoPark Speedway in Hampton, Georgia, after a dramatic three-wide battle on the final lap of overtime.

Starting from pole position, the Team Penske driver dominated much of the event by sweeping both opening stages and leading an outstanding 171 laps. Despite suffering minor contact with the outside wall late in the race, Blaney stayed on track and held off his rivals when it mattered most.

The race, originally scheduled for Sunday, was interrupted for more than three hours because of rain and lightning before resuming. It finally concluded at approximately 1:45 a.m. local time on Monday.

In the closing moments, Blaney faced intense pressure from Bubba Wallace and Christopher Bell as all three drivers battled side-by-side for the lead. Blaney maintained his advantage through the final lap to secure an important victory.

Wallace initially crossed the finish line in second place, but NASCAR later penalized him for passing below the double yellow line. The penalty dropped him to 29th in the final results, promoting Christopher Bell to second. Carson Hocevar and Ty Gibbs completed the top four.

Earlier in the race, Blaney made slight contact with the wall after an incident involving Wallace with fewer than 30 laps remaining. The impact caused noticeable vibrations in his car, raising concerns about possible damage.

After evaluating the situation, Team Penske decided not to bring the car to pit road. The strategy proved successful, as the car remained competitive through the closing laps.

Following the race, Blaney said he believed the vibration was caused mainly by debris and minor contact rather than significant damage. He added that the car continued to handle well enough to stay in contention for the win.

Crew chief Jonathan Hassler explained that the team reviewed available images of the car’s right side before deciding to keep Blaney on the track, believing it offered the best opportunity to fight for victory.
