Sindh Government Distributes 200 Free Pink Electric Scooters to Women
The Sindh government has distributed 200 free pink electric scooters among female students and working women in a ceremony held in Hyderabad as part of its women mobility and empowerment initiative.
The event was attended by Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon, who handed over the scooters to selected beneficiaries.
Initiative Aimed at Women’s Mobility and Independence
Addressing the ceremony, Sharjeel Inam Memon said the initiative aims to provide safer and more independent transportation options for women, including students, working professionals, and entrepreneurs.
He said the selection process for the scooters was carried out without political, ethnic, or linguistic discrimination.
Other Women-Focused Welfare Projects Highlighted
The minister said the project is part of broader welfare initiatives in Sindh, including the pink bus service, autism centers, improved healthcare facilities, and housing schemes where millions of homes have been allotted with ownership rights for women.
According to officials, the pink scooter scheme has also encouraged many women across Sindh to apply for driving licenses, reflecting growing interest in independent mobility.
Safety Rules and Usage Conditions
Officials confirmed that the scooters are reserved exclusively for women and cannot be sold for a period of seven years. The government has also made helmet use mandatory to ensure rider safety.
The initiative is being viewed as part of efforts to improve women’s participation in education, employment, and business activities through better transport access.
