Six Suspected Militants Killed in Security Operation in Lower Dir
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), in coordination with local police, conducted a security operation in Lower Dir on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of six suspected militants, according to an official statement.
Authorities said the operation was launched following intelligence reports regarding the presence of armed suspects in the district’s hilly areas. Security personnel surrounded the area and carried out a targeted operation.
According to officials, the suspects were allegedly linked to a recent attack on a police checkpost in the region. During the operation, an exchange of fire took place between security forces and the armed individuals.
Law enforcement agencies stated that six suspects were killed during the operation. Weapons and ammunition were reportedly recovered from the site.
Officials added that the deceased individuals were wanted in multiple cases related to security incidents. A search operation remains underway in the area to locate and apprehend any remaining suspects.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed commended the efforts of the CTD and district police, reaffirming the commitment of law enforcement agencies to maintaining public safety and security across the province.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also praised the operation and acknowledged the role of security personnel involved in the mission.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts by security forces to address militancy-related challenges in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
Recent security assessments have highlighted an increase in militant incidents in some regions of Pakistan, prompting authorities to continue intelligence-based operations aimed at improving law and order and protecting communities.
