Two Railway Officials Removed from Service After Khanewal Bridge Collapse Inquiry

The Pakistan Railways administration has removed two officials from service following an inquiry into the Khanewal railway bridge incident, which was found to involve negligence.

According to official sources, the disciplinary action was taken after a detailed investigation into the accident that occurred on May 30 last year at Khanewal Railway Station.

The inquiry report held the concerned officers responsible for lapses in maintenance and supervision. As a result, the then Divisional Engineer (Multan Division) and Assistant Engineer (Khanewal) were dismissed from service after the completion of departmental proceedings.

The incident had resulted in the death of a railway employee and injuries to a woman passenger when a portion of a pedestrian overhead bridge collapsed at the station.

Following the accident, the Federal Minister for Railways ordered a formal inquiry and directed strict action against those found responsible. The administration had stated that accountability would be ensured in accordance with departmental rules.

Officials reiterated that Pakistan Railways maintains a policy of zero tolerance toward negligence and emphasized that disciplinary action is taken based on findings of formal investigations.

The department further stated that efforts are ongoing to improve safety standards and infrastructure maintenance across the railway network to prevent similar incidents in the future.
