West Indies Unlikely to Approve PCB’s Request to Replace ODIs With Additional T20Is
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had recently requested a change in the upcoming limited-overs series against the West Indies, proposing that the scheduled One Day Internationals (ODIs) be replaced with additional T20 Internationals (T20Is). However, the Cricket West Indies (CWI) is expected to decline the request, opting to proceed with the originally planned itinerary.
đź“… Scheduled Tour Format to Remain Unchanged
The PCB’s proposal was made with the aim of providing the national team with more T20 match practice ahead of key tournaments, including the 2025 ACC Men’s Asia Cup and the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, both of which will be played in the T20 format.
Despite the rationale and ongoing dialogue between the boards, CWI is likely to stick to the initial plan, which includes:
-
3 T20 Internationals (starting July 31 / August 1 PST)
-
3 One Day Internationals (on August 8, 10, and 12)
Had the proposal been accepted, the tour could have featured up to five or six T20Is, removing the ODI leg altogether. However, an official confirmation is expected shortly, reaffirming the current schedule.
🏏 Preparation Ahead of Major Tournaments
The series presents a valuable opportunity for both teams, particularly as Pakistan and West Indies continue to develop new combinations and strategies in white-ball cricket. The tour will be a part of broader preparations leading into a busy international calendar.
In a coordinated move, Pakistan’s squad for the West Indies tour is expected to be announced alongside the team selected for the Bangladesh series, allowing for more streamlined preparations across formats.
