USA No.1 Brownell Joins Past Champions Asim Khan & Wall In Charlottesville Open 2025 Draw

(Sports Correspondent: Imran Sohail)
Charlottesville Open 2025 Squash Draw Announced

The draw for the Charlottesville Open 2025 has been confirmed, as the PSA World Tour returns to Boar’s Head Resort in Virginia for the third consecutive year.

Last year’s tournament marked a big step forward for Charlottesville, moving from the Challenger Tour into the new Copper level. It was also the scene of a major upset, with Pakistan’s Muhammad Asim Khan defying the odds as an unseeded player to claim the title.

Khan will feature in this year’s edition once again, but the defending champion faces another tough road. His first test comes against local wildcard JP Tew, a three-time US junior champion who is making his PSA Tour debut. The winner of that clash will move on to face USA No.1 and top seed Timothy Brownell in round two.

Tew has the added advantage of familiarity with the venue, having played college squash for the University of Virginia on the very same courts. He won’t be the only Cavalier in action, as his teammate Juan Torres has also been awarded a wildcard. The Colombian, who recently broke into the world’s top 110, opens his campaign against USA’s Shahjahan Khan.Timothy Brownell celebrates victory at the Silicon Valley Open.

Big Names in the Mix

England’s Nick Wall, the 2023 champion and last year’s runner-up, returns as the No.3 seed. He could meet fellow left-hander Nathan Lake (No.2 seed) in a potential all-English semifinal – a repeat of their 2023 final, which Wall won 3-1.

Other players to watch include:

  • Noor Zaman (Pakistan), the reigning U23 World Champion, who begins against Egypt’s Salman Khalil, the current US college squash champion.

  • Muhammad Ashab Irfan (Pakistan), who has captured three titles in his last five tournaments.

  • Veer Chotrani (India), a rising star who has drawn comparisons with legend Ramy Ashour.

  • Omar Mosaad (Egypt) and Adrian Waller (England), both seeded contenders aiming for deep runs.

The competition promises high-quality squash from start to finish, with several players capable of pulling off surprises.
