Nawab Town Police Register Case Against Driver Over Loud Music, FIR Sparks Debate
Nawab Town police have lodged a case against a car driver accused of playing loud music, an incident that has quickly gone viral after the First Information Report (FIR) surfaced on social media on Tuesday.
According to the FIR filed by Assistant Sub-Inspector Rahmat Ali, police had set up a checkpoint on Abdul Sattar Edhi Road to apprehend a proclaimed offender. During the operation, officers stopped a vehicle driven by Danish Ali, a resident of Firdaus Market in Gulberg.
The report states that the driver was playing a Punjabi song at high volume and admitted to police that listening to loud music while driving was his personal hobby. Authorities, however, said the act violated Section 6 of the Punjab Sound Systems (Regulation) Act, 2015, which restricts the use of sound systems and loudspeakers in public areas.
Police subsequently seized the car and took the driver into custody.
The decision to register a criminal case has triggered widespread debate online. Many social media users criticized the move, calling it unnecessary and an invasion of personal freedom. Others argued that the law should be applied with greater balance, particularly in cases involving individual entertainment inside private vehicles.
The incident has once again raised questions about how provincial sound regulation laws should be enforced and whether such cases truly warrant criminal charges.
